Career ReadinessTo be career-ready in the 21st century, students must possess a broad range of academic, employability, and technical skills, including the ability to be a life-long learner. All high school graduates need advanced reading, writing, communications and mathematics skills if they are to succeed in the future. Research from Achieve indicates that from 2010 to 2020, nearly 80% of new jobs will require some form of postsecondary education or training. We believe that all students should graduate high school with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to navigate and succeed in the postsecondary education and/or training necessary for their chosen career.
Washington County Public Schools offers a spectrum of opportunities that prepare students for a variety of careers, beginning with career awareness lessons in elementary school, expanding to career exploration through school-based courses and job shadowing in middle school, and culminating in career preparation via college and career completer programs in every high school, Career Academies, Washington County Technical High School, and more. Students, parents, and community members interested in more specific information should contact Cody Pine, Supervisor of Career Technology Education, at 301-766-2954. |
