Career Academies

A career academy is a career-themed small learning community with an emphasis on application of academic coursework to a broad career field and work experience through partnerships with community employers.  Career academies differ from traditional academic and vocational education because they prepare high school students for both college and careers.  Academies provide broad information about a field such as health care, finance, engineering, or natural resources.

Washington County Public Schools offers the following Academy Programs:

Academy of Biomedical Sciences at Washington County Technical High School

Academy of Finance at Williamsport High School

Academy of Teaching Professions at North Hagerstown High School and South Hagerstown High School

Environmental Agricultural Science Academy at Clear Spring High School

Fire & Rescue Academy at Washington County Technical High School

ORACLE Academy at South Hagerstown High School

Pre-Civil Engineering and Architecture Academy/Pre-Engineering Program at Washington County Technical High School

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academy at Williamsport High School

Career Academies are open to students from all WCPS high schools, and applications are required for admission.  Students and parents interested in more information should contact Cody Pine, Supervisor of Career Technology Education Program, at 301-766-2956.
